DALLAS – Following strong performances in the opening week of the 2022 Conference USA baseball season, Florida Atlantic OF Jalen DeBose and LA Tech RHP Kyle Crigger brought home the initial C-USA weekly awards of the year, the league announced on Monday. DeBose, who helped the Owls take two of three from Minnesota, was named the league’s Hitter of the Week, while Crigger earned Pitcher of the Week honors as the Bulldogs opened 2022 with a sweep over Wichita State. The 2021-22 C-USA Players of the Week awards are presented by Surf & Turf Golf.
 
HITTER OF THE WEEK
JALEN DEBOSE, FLORIDA ATLANTIC
SOPHOMORE, OF, SANFORD, FLA.
DeBose hit .500 (5-for-10) with an OPS of 1.683 in the Owls’ first three games with three doubles, a home run and 10 RBI. In the opening Friday night game, DeBose was the only Owl to record an RBI and was 1-for-4 on the day. On Saturday, he was 2-for-4, with a double and four RBI. The two-day total of five RBI matched his production for the entirety of 2021. Sunday, he added five more to his RBI total, for a total of 10 on the season, doubling his 2021 production in just three games. He was 2-for-2 on the day with another double and his first career home run, a line drive over the centerfield wall. DeBose's efforts were instrumental in the Owls beating Minnesota 2-of-3 with the final game on tap for Monday night (5:30 p.m. CT).
 
PITCHER OF THE WEEK
KYLE CRIGGER, LA TECH
SENIOR, RHP, CORINTH, MISS.
Crigger made a pair of relief appearances for the Bulldogs, who swept Wichita State at home to open the 2022 season, logging 4.0 innings and punching out seven of the 14 batters he faced compared to just one walk, while allowing no runs on just two hits. Crigger picked up the win in Friday night’s opener, then recorded a save in Saturday’s win over the Shockers. Louisiana Tech is one of five C-USA teams to open the year undefeated (3-0).
