SB: Conference USA Announces All-Academic Teams

DALLAS – Conference USA tabbed 11 student-athletes to its 2023 C-USA Softball All-Academic Teams Friday afternoon. Seven schools are represented with Charlotte, North Texas, UAB and UTEP earning a pair of spots on the list, while FIU, Florida Atlantic and WKU are highlighted as well.
 
Seven individuals are repeat honorees, led by three-time honoree Pate Cathey of UTEP. The graduate student from Frisco, Texas, boasts a perfect 4.00 GPA in leadership studies. Cathey has started all 42 games in the infield for the Miners, belting four home runs and recording five sacrifice bunts, which ranks second on the team.
 
Charlotte’s Cori Hoffler (3.93, Special Education), North Texas’ Lexi Cobb (3.84, Computer Science) and Kalei Christensen (3.96, Audiology & Speech-Language Pathology), UAB’s Sierra Frazier (3.80, Kinesiology), UTEP’s Alexia Morales (3.90, Forensic Science) and WKU’s Katie Gardner (3.78, Speech Language Pathology) all garnered their second career all-academic nod.
 
Seven of the 11 honorees have a GPA of 3.90 or better, including two with 4.00 marks in Cathey and Charlotte’s Sam Gress.
 
The 2023 C-USA Softball Championship will be held May 10-13 in Ruston, La.
