BSB: DBU, LA Tech Selected to 2024 NCAA Tournament Field

DALLAS – Conference USA has received two bids to the 2024 NCAA Baseball Championship, as announced by the Division I baseball committee on Monday. CUSA tournament champion DBU will be the No. 2 seed in the Tucson Regional while CUSA regular season champ Louisiana Tech will be a No. 2 seed in the Fayetteville Regional. Regional action will open Friday, May 31.
 
Fresh off their first CUSA tournament championship, DBU (44-13, 17-7 CUSA) will travel to Tucson and open up their postseason trip against No. 3 West Virginia (33-22, 19-11 Big 12) on Friday at 2 p.m. CT. The No. 2 seeded Patriots and will join No. 1 Arizona (36-21, 20-10 Pac-12) and No. 4 Grand Canyon (34-23, 23-7 WAC), who is set for an 8 p.m. CT first pitch. The Patriots defeated the Wildcats earlier in the season, 4-3, in the Frisco Classic.
 
The Patriots, led by CUSA Co-Coach of the year Dan Heefner, guides his team to their 13th regional appearance in program history and the 10th straight. CUSA Pitcher of the Year Ryan Johnson ranks second nationally in ERA (1.98) and third nationally in total strikeouts (147). Johnson shattered the single-season strikeout at DBU and became the first Patriot in the 300-strikeout club.
 
CUSA regular season champion, Louisiana Tech (45-17, 18-6 CUSA) will hit the road to Fayetteville as a No. 2 seed and will begin play with No. 3 Kansas State (32-24, 15-15 Big 12) on Friday at 7 p.m. CT. The Bulldogs join No. 1 Arkansas (43-14, 20-10 SEC) and No. 4 Southeast Missouri State (34-25, 18-9 OVC) who will meet in the other contest on Friday.
 
Bulldog skipper Lane Burroughs was named CUSA Co-Coach of the Year after leading his bunch to their third 40-win season in the last four years. Ethan Bates, the CUSA Player of the Year, leads the nation with 17 saves and is hitting .343 in the three-hole with 15 homers and a league-leading 74 RBI.

Each of the 16 regionals features four teams, playing a double-elimination format. The regionals are scheduled to be conducted from Friday, May 31, to Monday, June 3 (if necessary).

A CUSA team has advanced to a Super Regional in 12 of the last 23 years and reached the College World Series six times since 2005.

The Men's College World Series begins play Friday, June 14, at Charles Schwab Field Omaha in Omaha, Nebraska.
