DALLAS – Following a dominant rookie season, NM State two-way star
Desirae Spearman earned Freshman All-America honors from Softball America and D1Softball. It marks the first Freshman All-America recognition by a CUSA softball student-athlete.
She became the first player since 2001 to be named the CUSA Player and Pitcher of the Year and was the first student-athlete in league history to land on the all-conference first team at two positions (pitcher, outfield).
Spearman finished the season with a league-leading 18 home runs, which ranked 22
nd nationally, while going 8-4 with a 3.15 ERA and 75 strikeouts across 84.1 innings in the circle. In CUSA play, she led the way in slugging (.794) and home runs (10) and ranked second in OPS (1.246) and runs (21).
The El Paso, Texas, native was also selected to the 2024 CUSA Softball Championship All-Tournament Team after hitting .600 (6-10) with five RBI, six runs and two home runs during the event. In the Aggies’ opening game of the week, she went 3-3 with a home run, a double, two runs and two RBI while striking out seven in 5.1 innings in the circle.
A five-time CUSA Freshman of the Week and member of the TUCCI/NFCA Freshman of the Year Top 25 List, Spearman posted three multi-homer games, including two in conference play. Her highlights in the circle include a one-hit shutout versus Nebraska and three complete-game victories in league action, the last of which came against conference champion Liberty.
