MGOLF: NM State’s Thomas Wins Individual Title, Match Play Set for Team Champion

TEXARKANA, Ark. – New Mexico State’s Aidan Thomas took home the 2025 Conference USA Individual Title with a three-round score of 8-under 208 on Wednesday at Texarkana Country Club. In addition to Thomas’ individual win, Liberty, Sam Houston, Kennesaw State and UTEP clinched a spot in Thursday’s match play semifinal. No. 1 seed Liberty will battle No. 4 UTEP, while No. 2 Sam Houston will face conference newcomer and No. 3 Kennesaw State on Thursday morning in the semifinals.  
 
After three rounds of stroke play, the top-five teams finished under par. Liberty finished at -15, Sam Houston at -9, Kennesaw State at -3, while UTEP and New Mexico State tied at -2. The Miners and the Aggies went head-to-head in a team playoff, fighting for the fourth and final spot in Thursday’s match play round. Ultimately, UTEP shot even-par, defeating NM State, and securing its place in the semifinals.  
 
Five total players earned spots on the All-Tournament Team – Thomas (NM State), Ike Joy (Liberty), Claes Borregaard (Kennesaw State), Hugo Trommetter (Sam Houston) and Andrew Gregory (Liberty). 
 
The match play semifinals tee off at 8 a.m. CT, as Liberty takes on UTEP on the first hole, while Sam Houston and KSU tee off on hole 10 at 8 a.m. as well. Fans can tune in to watch the championship round on ESPN+ at 1 p.m. CT.
