VB: September 15 Players of the Week

DALLAS – Liberty’s Paige Overcash, WKU’s Faith Young, Callie Bauer and Kaira Knox earned Conference USA Volleyball Player of the Week honors.

CUSA Offensive Player of the Week – Paige Overcash, Liberty – So. – RS – Ashe County, N.C.
Overcash earns her third consecutive CUSA Offensive Player of the Week honor after making an assault on the record books this weekend at the Tribe Invitational, averaging 5.17 kills per set at a .408 clip while adding 1.42 digs and 0.67 blocks per set. She was named to the All-Tournament Team, helping Liberty go 3-0 and claim the Tribe Invitational title. On Friday against Norfolk State, Overcash scored a match-high 15 kills at a .333 pace as the Lady Flames swept the Spartans 3-0.  During Saturday's match against previously unbeaten ECU, Overcash set a new program 25-point rally-scoring record with 30 kills (.426) to go along with 10 digs for her first career double-double. With Liberty facing match point, trailing 14-12 in the fifth, Overcash scored three straight kills to put the Lady Flames ahead 15-14. Her 30 kills are the most by any Lady Flame since 2001. Overcash finished the weekend by scoring a match-high 17 kills (.455) during a 3-1 win over the host William & Mary. The Ashe County, N.C., native leads all CUSA players in hitting percentage (.422) while ranking second in kills per set (3.91). 
 
CUSA Defensive Player of the Week – Faith Young, WKU– So. – MB – Harrison, Ohio
Young posted a double-digit blocking weekend to lead WKU's defense to a perfect, 3-0, nine-set sweep at the ETSU Tournament. The sophomore middle blocker finished with 11 blocks--including two solos--on the weekend including a team-high six blocks against High Point. She also accounted for almost half of the team's blocks, responsible for 11 of the 26. Offensively, Young racked up the third-most kills with 29 and was also responsible for two service aces and eight digs.
 
CUSA Setter of the Week – Callie Bauer, WKU– R-Sr. – Hudson, Mich.
Bauer led the Hilltoppers to a perfect 3-0 weekend and a .309 hitting percentage as the Michigan native accrued 105 assists, while averaging 11.67 assists per set across nine sets. She finished with 10 kills on the weekend and recorded the first double-double of the season against VCU with 10 digs and 35 assists. She was responsible for over 80 percent of team's assists and was the total package for WKU, finishing the weekend with two service aces, 27 digs, and contributed at the net with five blocks. 
 
CUSA Freshman of the Week – Kaira Knox, WKU– RS – Nolensville, Tenn.
Knox continues to shine for the Hilltoppers, finishing with the second-most kills on the weekend with 30 on a .333 hitting clip and averaging 10 kills per match. In the back row, she finished with 22 digs and five service aces, while helping at the net with five blocks. The Nolensville, Tenn., native, currently ranks second on the team in total kills with 88, posting a .243 hitting percentage through the first eight matches.
