DALLAS – Kennesaw State earns three Athlete of the Week titles, with
Chance Cross (Men’s Track Athlete of the Week),
Gage Voyles (Men’s Freshman of the Week) and
Emma Sullivan (Women’s Track Athlete of the Week) receiving the honors. Also being recognized is Liberty’s
Gilles Ouedraogo and UTEP’s
Praise Djoma as the Field Athletes of the Week.
Men's Track Athlete of the Week – Chance Cross, Kennesaw State – Sr. – Bogart, Ga.
For his second Athlete of the Week honor, Cross won the 60-meter semifinal with a personal-best time of 6.54 seconds at the Tiger Paw Invite. The final was canceled, declaring Cross the winner of the event. That time is tied for fifth in the NCAA this season, leads Conference USA and established a school record. Cross beat runners from Auburn, Florida State, Mississippi State, among other strong programs in the event.
Men's Field Athlete of the Week – Gilles Ouedraogo, Liberty – Jr. – Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso
Ouedraogo set the Liberty men's triple jump record for the third straight meet, thanks to his 16.03-meter (52-7.25) effort in round six at the Tiger Paw Invitational. He became the first triple jumper in program history, both indoor and outdoor, to hit 16 meters. Ouedraogo’s mark placed him third in the competition, leads CUSA and is tied for No. 19 nationally this season. This is his third Athlete of the Week honor this season.
Men's Freshman of the Week – Gage Voyles, Kennesaw State – Fr. – Dalton, Ga.
To earn his second Freshman of the Week honor, Voyles won the high jump invite at the Music City Challenge with a personal-best clearance of 2.13 meters (6' 11.75"). That mark tops CUSA and is tied for No. 53 in the NCAA so far this season.
Women's Track Athlete of the Week – Emma Sullivan, Kennesaw State – Gr. – Dudley, Ma.
Sullivan finished second in the 800-meter with a personal-best time of 2:03.63 seconds at the Tiger Paw Invitational. That time leads CUSA and ranks 28th in the NCAA this season. She beat runners from programs such as Miami, Duke, Mississippi State, Georgia, among others.
Women's Field Athlete of the Week – Praise Djoma, UTEP – Jr. – Warri, Nigeria
Djoma turned in a personal-best leap of 6.16 meters (20-2.5) in the women’s long jump to win the event at the Jarvis Scott Invite hosted by Texas Tech. She now leads the conference and ranks No. 60 in the NCAA. This is her second consecutive Athlete of the Week honor.
Women's Freshman of the Week – Kylie Neira, FIU – Fr. – DeLand, Fla.
At the Music City Challenge, Neira placed third overall (second among competitors attached to a school) in the pole vault with a personal best jump of 4.05 meters. She is now ranked second in CUSA, first among freshmen, and tied for No. 72 nationally.
