CUSA Hitter of the Week – Caleb Johnson, Jax State – Sr. – INF – Phenix City, Ala.
Johnson put together a stellar week for the Gamecocks (10-2) who have now won 10 straight contests. The senior shortstop hit an impressive .588 (10-17) with a home run, three doubles six RBI, four runs and seven stolen bases. The Phenix City, Ala., native, recorded multi-hit performances in four of the five games including a 4-4 outing with a homer in the series finale win at Memphis. After swiping seven bags over the weekend, Johnson ranks second in CUSA in stolen bases.
CUSA Pitcher of the Week – Ben Blair, Liberty – Jr. – RHP – Gretna, Va.
Blair takes home Pitcher of the Week honors for the second time in three weeks to begin the year after a career-day on the mound for the Flames (7-3) on Friday. The junior right-hander fanned a career-high 12 Hofstra batters over 7.0 strong innings of work. Both runs he surrendered were off a leadoff walk followed by doubles in the first and third innings – the only two hits he gave up. Blair settled in and was perfection the rest of the way as Hofstra hitters hit .087 against him in total. His 12 strikeouts were the most in a game this year by a CUSA pitcher.
