DALLAS – Kennesaw State won three tennis weekly award honors and FIU picked up one the league announced Wednesday afternoon.
Women's Tennis Athlete of the Week – Ema Baraniakova, Kennesaw State – Jr. – Leopoldov, Slovakia
Baraniakova helped KSU women's tennis to a 4-0 defeat over No. 58 South Alabama, the program's all-time highest-ranked defeated opponent. She defeated the Jaguars' Rio Maeda 6-4, 6-1 on line one, then teamed up with Sofia Madrid to defeat the duo of Kenza Elakili and Manal Ennaciri, 6-2 in No. 1 doubles. Baraniakova also defeated Lipscomb's Sofiia Paladi 7-5, 6-4.
Women's Doubles Team of the Week – FIU
Aleksandra Simeva – Jr. – Skopje, Republic of North Macedonia
Maria Lucia Araoz-Gosn – So. – Parkland, Fla.
Simeva and Araoz-Gosn went 2-0 as a doubles tandem against MTSU and Delaware in FIU's first two CUSA matches of the season. They provided the doubles point to clinch the win with a 6-3 victory at the No. 3 slot over Delaware, helping the team secure a 4-3 victory. The duo also posted a 6-4 win over MTSU on court three in the team’s 4-1 win over the Blue Raiders.
Men's Tennis Athlete of the Week – Nathan Walters, Kennesaw State - Fr. – Cirona, Spain
Walters earned a perfect 3-0 week at No. 4 and 5 positions last week. The No. 75-ranked Kennesaw State Owls won all three matches as well over UAB, Lipscomb and Prebyterian. On court five, Walters defeated UAB’s Axel Frechet 6-2, 6-2. He then capped the week off with two more straight set victories against Lipscomb’s Oskar Szymczak and Presbyterian’s Daksh Prasad on court four. He improved to a team-best 12-2 on the year in singles play and has a team-high six-match singles win streak.
Men's Tennis Doubles Team of the Week – Kennesaw State
Kyvan Rietkerk – Jr. – Zoetermeer, Netherlands
Leon Peranovic – Fr. – Hanover, Germany
The duo of Reitkerk and Peranovic put together a 3-0 week for the Owls with triumphs over UAB (4-2), Lipscomb (5-2) and Presbyterian (4-3). Against the Blazers, the pair defeated Ondrej Valek and Juan Pablo Valdez 6-4 on court one. They followed that with a victory over the Bisons’ Alex Vlahos and Oskar Szymczak 7-6 (7-4) on court one. The freshman and junior duo went 2-1 in their first three matches as a pair and helped Kennesaw State jump into the ITA rankings at No. 75.
