DALLAS – Kennesaw State swept Conference USA’s women’s tennis weekly awards while Middle Tennessee swept the awards on the men’s side.
Women's Tennis Athlete of the Week – Ema Baraniakova, Kennesaw State – Jr. – Leopoldov, Slovakia
For her second consecutive Athlete of the Week honor, Baraniakova defeated Middle Tennessee's Zora Koenig 6-1, 6-3 on court one for a 4-3 KSU win. The junior has won four of her last five matches in the No. 1 position.
Women's Doubles Team of the Week – Kennesaw State
Ema Baraniakova – Jr. – Leopoldov, Slovakia
Sofia Madrid – Sr. – Neuquen, Argentina
Baraniakova and Madrid claimed a 6-4 win on court one over No. 77 Alejandra Cruz and Seri Nayuki of No. 55 Georgia Tech. They later secured a 6-0 win on court one over Middle Tennessee's Sara Conde and Cara Szilasi. The duo holds the team-best doubles record of 9-4.
Men's Tennis Athlete of the Week – Birtan Duran, MTSU – Jr. – Istanbul, Turkey
Over the weekend, Duran secured a third-set victory against Tulane's Alec Gaudin on court No. 3. After losing the first set without winning a game, Duran regained control in the second set, establishing an early 3-2 lead and extending it to 5-2. Gaudin managed to reduce the deficit to 5-3, but the Turkish native won the next game, sealing the set at 6-3. In the third set, Duran was dominant, allowing Gaudin to win just one game during a 6-1 finish. With this victory, MTSU led 4-1. Duran then faced Tennessee State's James Adler Germinal, winning that match with a score of 6-3, 6-3. In a previous match against William & Mary, Duran won his first set 6-2, leading 4-0 in the second set before MTSU clinched the match.
Men's Doubles Team of the Week – MTSU
Ondrej Horak – Sr. – Opava, Czech Republic
Antoine Mayoral – Fr. – Ménilles, France
The duo of Horak and Mayoral secured a victory against Tulane's AJ Mercer and Lance Nisbet with a score of 6-3 on court No. 3. Later, they also triumphed over Tennessee State's James Adler Germinal and Tatenda Mutetwa, winning 6-2. On Friday, Horak and Mayoral achieved a 6-2 victory on court No. 2 against Albert Hansen and Theo Nilsson. This success contributed to the Blue Raiders winning the doubles point against William & Mary, leading to a 4-0 sweep. The pair concluded the weekend with an impressive 3-0 record in doubles matches.
