GOLF: September 23 Golfers of the Week

DALLAS – Delaware’s Rhianna Gooneratne and Middle Tennessee’s Connor Henry have been named Conference USA’s Golfers of the Week.

CUSA Women’s Golfer of the Week – Rhianna Gooneratne, Delaware – So. – Plymouth Meeting, Pa.
Gooneratne fired an even-par 144 to claim her first-career medalist honors at the Mary Fossum Invitational hosted by Michigan State. She led Delaware to its first team title of the season as the Blue Hens carded a team score of 23-over par to win by four strokes over Central Michigan.  Gooneratne carded back-to-back rounds of even-par 72.  She was in second place after the first round, but drained three of her five birdies on Monday to win by two strokes. It was her fourth-career top-10 finish. She has led the Blue Hens as the top finisher in each of their three tournaments to start the season and owns a 72.75 stroke average through eight rounds.

CUSA Men's Golfer of the Week – Connor Henry, MTSU – Sr. – Fort Worth, Texas
Henry came home from the Bayou City Collegiate Classic at Westwood Golf Club as co-champion, after carding a 206 (-10) to tie with Texas' Sterling Hurd at the top of the leaderboard. This marked the first individual title of Henry's career. The senior started off the tournament shooting a seven-under 65, marking his lowest score of the tournament. He then battled through a rain-delayed and later suspended round two, ultimately patching together a two-under 70 round to put himself in contention for the title. Henry put the cherry on top with a three-under 69 round, surging from as far back as fifth place to capture his first collegiate win. In total, Henry recorded 17 birdies across two days at the tournament.
