Kimberley Jones Named New UC Tennis Coach
CINCINNATI, Ohio ? Kimberley Jones, a former touring professional on the Women's Tennis Association Tour and currently a staff teaching professional at Queen City Racquet Club, has been named head tennis coach at the University of Cincinnati.
Jones replaces Carol Tanner, who is retiring after serving 12 years as UC's head coach.
"We are very fortunate to attract a talented professional like Kimberly to head up our women's tennis program," stated UC Deputy Athletic Director Dean Billick. "She not only brings a top professional playing background, but she is considered one of the best teachers of the game in the country. We are excited to have her lead our program."
A two-time NCAA All-American at San Diego State, Jones joined the WTA tour in 1979. She captured the U.S. National Indoor Championship in 1983, defeating three top-10 ranked players en route to the title, in 1983. She was also a member of the U.S. Open Final Eight Club which honors players who reach the final eight of the U.S. Open during their careers.
Jones also played three seasons of World Team Tennis (1983-85).
She left the tour in 1987 to become a mother and a private tennis coach in Great Falls, Va. and served as tennis coach at Langley High in Northern Virginia for three seasons. More recently, Jones was head coach in the greater Cincinnati area at Mt. Notre Dame High (2001) and Walnut Hills High (2002).
Jones is a graduate of the exclusive U.S. Tennis Association's High Performance Coaching Program and has been Professional Tennis Registry certified since 1999.
