TEN: March 18 Athletes of the Week

DALLAS – Sam Houston’s Nayuma Subba and MTSU’s Ondrej Horak have been named this week’s Conference USA Tennis Athletes of the Week while LA Tech’s pair of Zoie Epps and Isabella Walker along with Delaware’s duo of Pere Prat and Federico Garbero have been named the Doubles Teams of the Week.

Women's Tennis Athlete of the Week - Nayuma Subba, Sam Houston – Sr. – Kanagawa, Japan
Subba turned in a perfect week for the Bearkats, leading Sam Houston to a 4-0 week with 2 wins at Tennessee Southern and victories at WKU and MTSU. It is the first 4-match win streak in dual-match play since 2021 for the Kats. Subba went 3-0 at No. 1 singles play and 1-0 at No. 2, while also pairing with teammate Adi Venkatakrishnan for 4 victories at No. 1 doubles. She took down UTS No. 1 Natalie Vegara in straight sets on March 10, following with a win at No. 2 over UTS' Sofi Rudea in straight sets. Subba then downed WKU's Isabelle Einess (6-0, 6-0) and MTSU's Lena Peyer (7-6, 6-4) at No. 1 in the final 2 matches of the week, providing the match-clinching point in the win over the Blue Raiders. She now stands at 10-4 in singles matches this year, including 9-4 at No. 1 and enters play this week riding a 9-match win streak in singles play.

Women's Doubles Team of the Week – LA Tech
Zoie Epps, LA Tech – Jr. – Norman, Okla.
Isabella Walker, LA Tech – Fr. – Birmingham, England
The 70th-ranked doubles duo of Epps and Walker helped lead LA Tech to a pair of home victories this past weekend, shutting out CUSA opponent Missouri State 4-0 followed by a 4-2 win over Abilene Christian to extend its winning streak to eight matches. The tandem went 2-0 from the top spot, helping the Bulldogs secure the doubles point in both matches. They did not surrender a single game to MSU, winning 6-0. That was followed up by a decisive 6-2 victory against ACU. The duo improved to 7-3 this spring, having won three straight contests.

Men's Tennis Athlete of the Week – Karim Al-Amin, MTSU – Sr. – Waltrop, Germany
Senior Karim Al-Amin clinched the Blue Raiders' first point with a 7-6 (9-7), 6-3 win over No. 122 South Florida's Elijah Cham on court No. 2. In the opening set, Al-Amin tied the score at 6-6 and ultimately triumphed in a tiebreak 9-7. In the match against Yale, Al-Amin continued his strong performance, overcoming Edward Liao in a three-set match on court two, finishing with scores of 6-7, 6-2, 1-0 (11-9).

Men's Doubles Team of the Week - Delaware
Pere Prat – Fr. – Gurb, Catalonia, Spain
Federico Garbero – So. – Villarbasse, Italy
Prat and Garbero, a young duo unfamilar with pairing up together in both of their first years competing with the Fightin' Blue Hens took to the courts twice this past weekend in doubles action. They handedly won both third doubles matches that they competed in. They came up clutch, clinching the doubles point 6-3 after Monmouth tied it up in order to secure the 4-0 clinch for the Hens on senior day. Against Saint Joseph's, they won 6-0 in third doubles, the first shutout for either student-athlete in their Delaware doubles career.
