Birtan Duran have been named Conference USA’s Tennis Athletes of the Week. For doubles awards, Delaware’s
Nayva Vadlamudi and Gorman along with MTSU’s
Karim Al-Amin and
Ondrej Horak won the honors.
Women's Tennis Athlete of the Week - Amelia Gorman, Delaware - Sr. – Bethel Park, Pa.
Gorman was a crucial piece to the Fightin' Blue Hens' highest-ranked victory in program history, clinching both the doubles point and final singles point over No. 45, Penn. In her first singles set, she won a tiebreaker (7-6), before cruising through her second set 6-1. In doubles, alongside Navya Vadlamudi, they took the win 6-4, to enter singles action up 1-0.
Women's Doubles Team of the Week – Delaware
Navya Vadlamudi - Sr. – Dallas, Texas
Amelia Gorman - Sr. – Bethel Park, Pa.
Gorman and Vadlamudi clinched the doubles point for Delaware with a 6-4 victory in the Fightin' Blue Hens' 4-3 win over Penn in its highest-ranked victory in program history. The duo is 9-1 on the year, including being winners of four-straight.
Men's Tennis Athlete of the Week - Birtan Duran, MTSU - Jr. – Istanbul, Turkey
In a thrilling match on Saturday against Old Dominion with a 45-minute rain delay, where the score was tied at 3-3, Duran made a remarkable impact on court 5. Despite a narrow loss in the first set tiebreak to Aryan Saleh, he demonstrated resilience by winning the second set in a tiebreak and then took charge in the third set, securing a 6-2 victory. Duran’s focus and aggressive play clinched the exciting 4-3 win for MTSU. The following day, against Rice, Duran continued his impressive performance with a solid 6-4, 6-2 victory over Kabeer Kapasi on court 4, further extending the lead to 3-1 for MTSU. MTSU went 3-0 in the Battle in the Boro and has a 9-0 home record.
Men's Doubles Team of the Week - MTSU
Karim Al-Amin - Sr. – Waltrop, Germany
Ondrej Horak - Sr. – Opava, Czech Republic
The nationally ranked duo of Karim Al-Amin and Ondrej Horak secured the doubles point with an exciting 7-6 (7-2) victory against Utah's Balthazar Huss and Dante Teramo at court one. The following day, in their doubles match against ODU, Karim Al-Amin and Ondrej Horak continued their strong performance by defeating Thomas Nelson and J-Karim OlivierDeSar 6-3. MTSU went 3-0 in the Battle in the Boro and had a 9-0 home record.
