DALLAS – Conference USA women’s soccer student-athletes excelled on and off the field as 22 were named to the 2019 C-USA Women’s Soccer All-Academic Teams. Twelve institutions were recognized across both teams, with Charlotte leading the league with four honorees.
Charlotte’s
Megan Greene and Middle Tennessee’s
Amber Hoot received their third consecutive First Team nods this season.
Greene leads the 49ers with eight goals on the season. The senior finance major with a minor in psychology posted a 3.80 grade-point average (GPA) and has received the C-USA Commissioner’s Academic Medal the past three years. Her three career hat tricks are the most in program history.
A biochemistry major, Hoot holds a 3.97 GPA. The senior totaled the third-most minutes on the team with 1,538 in the midfield. She has tallied two goals and four assists on the season, including one in a 4-3 overtime win over UTEP.
Florida Atlantic’s
Alex Maxson and Southern Miss’
JoAnnie Ramos earned back-to-back First Team recognition this year.
Maxson compiled a 3.882 GPA while majoring in international business and finance. She has been named to the C-USA Commissioner’s Honor Roll every year of her career at Florida Atlantic. The senior paces the Owls with 1,582 minutes on the pitch so far in 2019, leading a stingy defense that helped the Owls to the regular-season champion title.
A three-time Southern Miss President’s List honoree, Ramos boasts a 3.952 GPA in nursing. The Golden Eagles’ SAAC President is also a two-time C-USA Commissioner’s Honor Roll selection. The junior midfielder has logged 1,531 minutes of playing time, tallying two goals and two assists on the season.
North Texas’

The senior logistics supply chain management major has a 3.843 GPA and will graduate a semester early in December 2019. The 2019 Preseason MAC Hermann Trophy Watch List member led a North Texas backline that allowed just two goals in conference play this season. Her 1,401 minutes on the field is second only to the Mean Green goalkeeper.
UAB’s
Megan Hudgens returns to the First Team in 2019 after receiving a spot in 2017. As a finance major, the senior boasts a 3.968 GPA. The three-time C-USA Commissioner’s Academic Medal recipient led the Blazers in goals (four) and points (nine) this season through 17 matches.
After being named to the Second Team in 2018, WKU’s
Kaylyn Bryant received First Team recognition this campaign. Bryant posted a 3.93 GPA as a biology major. A 2018-19 C-USA Commissioner’s Academic Medal recipient, the senior has played the second-most minutes of any Lady Topper in 2019 and is an integral part of a WKU defense that has posted seven shutouts.
Charlotte earned their second First Team honoree in
Mary Manser. The senior systems engineering major compiled a 3.97 GPA. A two-time Spirit of Service winner and three-time C-USA Commissioner’s Academic Medal recipient, Manser has helped the 49ers register five clean sheets and hold opponents to 1.12 goals per game in 2019.
Three student-athletes were named First Team All-Academic for the first time this season.
North Texas’
Logan Bruffett, an integrative studies (psychology, biology and health professions) major, penned an unblemished 4.00 GPA and will graduate a year early in May 2020. The junior midfielder has scored five goals and tallied two assists in 2019 and has the third-most points for the Mean Green entering the C-USA Championship.
Old Dominion’s
Amanda Nhek boasts a perfect 4.00 GPA as a teacher preparation major with a health education minor. The C-USA Commissioner’s Academic Medal recipient led the Monarchs with eight goals, six assists and 22 points in 2019. She scored a goal in nine straight matches and helped Old Dominion go undefeated in non-conference play.
Rounding out the First Team is UTSA’s
Nicole Galan. The senior, earning her master’s degree in business, compiled a flawless 4.00 GPA. A two-time C-USA Commissioner’s Academic Medal selection, the team captain totaled one goal and three assists as the Roadrunners posted their best winning percentage since 2011.
