DALLAS – FIU’s Arturo Dean and MTSU’s Chris Loofe earned Conference USA Men’s Basketball weekly honors. The 2023-24 CUSA Players of the Week awards are presented by Blenders Eyewear and are voted on by the league’s sports information directors.
 
Dean picked up his fifth career CUSA weekly honor – his first Player of the Week title after winning four Freshman of the Week awards last year – after averaging 20 points, eight steals, seven rebounds and four assists in a 1-1 week for the Panthers (3-7).
 
Loofe garnered his first Freshman of the Week honor following a crucial performance for the Blue Raiders (4-5) against Wofford. He saw a career-high 21 minutes of action after an injury to fellow big man Josh Ogundele.
 
Player of the Week – Arturo Dean, FIU – Sophomore – Guard – Miami, Fla.
Dean began a tremendous week with 10 steals against FGCU, which set a program record and tied for the second-most in CUSA history. He posted nine steals in the first half alone and finished the game with 13 points, seven rebounds and four assists. Dean followed it up with a career-high 27 points on 11-22 shooting in a win over LIU. He once again padded his stat line with another seven boards, six steals and four assists. Following his performances, Dean increased his gap as the national leader in steals per game (4.40) and the active career leader in steals per game (2.98).
 
Freshman of the Week – Chris Loofe, MTSU – Freshman – Forward – Leander, Texas
Loofe set career highs in minutes (21), rebounds (five) and blocks (three) after an early injury to Josh Ogundele against Wofford. Three of his five rebounds came on the offensive end, leading to five of the team’s nine second-chance points. Loofe added two points on a pair of free-throw makes and tallied an assist and a steal. His three swatted shots gives the rookie big man five blocks in the last four games and six total blocks on the year.
