RJ Johnson and
Trey Simpson earned Conference USA Men’s Basketball weekly honors. The 2025-26 Players of the Week are voted on by the league’s sports information directors.
CUSA Player of the Week – RJ Johnson, Kennesaw State – So. – G – Huntsville, Ala.
Johnson secures Player of the Week recognition after turning in a career-week for the Owls (12-6, 4-3 CUSA) as they picked up two wins over FIU and WKU. The sophomore guard averaged 28.5 points, 4.5 rebounds and 6.0 assists all while shooting 63.6 percent (7-11) from downtown. The Huntsville, Ala., native scored a career-high 26 points as the Owls came-from-behind to defeat the Panthers on Wednesday night, including the game-clinching layup with under two minutes to go. On Saturday at WKU, he topped his career-best with 31 points, scoring 18 in the second half to pull away. Johnson added nine rebounds and five assists in the road victory.
CUSA Freshman of the Week – Trey Simpson, Kennesaw State – Fr. – F – Evergreen, Ala.
Simpson makes it back-to-back Freshman of the Week honors after a breakout performance against FIU in Wednesday night's win, 90-87. The true freshman forward scored a career-high 28 points and tied a school record with eight made triples. Simpson grabbed four rebounds and shot 53.0 percent from the floor in 38 minutes. The Evergreen, Ala., native had a trio of blocks in each of their wins last week. After starting league play 0-3, the Owls have rattled off four straight to move into third-place in the standings.
