TEN: Feb. 14 Athletes of the Week

DALLAS – Middle Tennessee’s Demis Taramonlis and Liberty’s Maria Juliana Parra Romero each received their first Conference USA Tennis Athlete of the week honors, the league announced Wednesday. The weekly awards are presented by Blenders Eyewear.

CUSA Men’s Tennis Athlete of the Week – Demis Taramonlis, MTSU, R-Sr., Veria, Greece
Taramonlis earned his first Athlete of the Week recognition after going a perfect two-for-two in singles against two Power 5 opponents over the weekend. In the first match, the redshirt senior defeated Virginia Tech’s Alberto Orso 6-2, 6-2. On Sunday, the Veria, Greece native, recorded a dominant singles’ win over Indiana’s Ilya Tiraspolsky (6-2, 6-1). He helped lead the Blue Raiders to a 1-1 showing and the two wins mark his fourth and fifth victories of the 2024 spring season.

CUSA Women’s Tennis Athlete of the Week – Maria Juliana Parra Romero, Liberty, Jr, Bucaramanga, Colombia
Parra Romero went 1-1 on Saturday in a 4-3 win over Delaware. She secured the match-winning fourth point in a singles match that lasted over three hours. Facing Slade Coetzee in the No. 1 slot, Parra Romero dropped an intense first set in a tiebreaker 7-6 (8-6) after no athlete managed to earn a break. The sophomore persevered and faced a 5-4 deficit with the match point looming. The junior rattled off three consecutive games to grab the second set, 7-5. With all other singles matches finished and the score tied 3-3, Parra Romero took care of business in a competitive set, winning the match for the Lady Flames 6-7 (6), 7-5, 6-1.
