ITF: December 9 Athletes of the Week

DALLAS – Following the opening week of indoor track and field, six athletes have been named Conference USA Athletes of the Week. Liberty earned four of the six honors, including Joshua Smith, Chase Johnson, Allie Zealand and Alivia Rivera-Norman. Middle Tennessee’s Mustapha Bokpin and Kennesaw’s State’s Kali Terza have also earned awards.
 
Men's Track Athlete of the Week - Mustapha Bokpin, MTSU - So.
Bokpin had a stellar debut for Middle Tennessee on Saturday at the Commodore Winter Challenge. In his first race as a Blue Raider, Bokpin broke the 300m program record with a time of 33.59, surpassing the previous mark of 33.96 that was set in 2020. The sophomore topped his heat, and his time placed him in the top five in a competitive 300m field of 41 athletes. Bokpin’s mark is currently 22nd in the nation in the 300m. 
 
Men's Field Athlete of the Week - Joshua Smith, Liberty - Sr. – South Fulton, Ga.
Smith won the Liberty Kickoff men's triple jump competition on his final attempt with a leap of 51-3.5 (15.63m). Setting a new program-best mark, Smith’s jump broke the previous Liberty record that had stood since 2018. He now ranks No. 3 nationally this season.
 
Men's Freshman of the Week - Chase Johnson, Liberty - Fr. – Flower Mound, Texas
Johnson finished sixth in a loaded men's pole vault competition at the Liberty Kickoff. His 16-6.75 (5.05m) clearance tied the Liberty freshman record and is tied for No. 14 nationally.
 
Women's Track Athlete of the Week - Allie Zealand, Liberty - So. – Forest, Va.
Zealand placed third in the women's 3K invitational section at the Sharon Colyear-Danville Season Opener on Saturday in Boston. Her 8:44.71 clocking ranks No. 3 in the NCAA this year and No. 10 all-time in collegiate history. She slashed 23 seconds off her own program record set a year ago.
 
Women's Field Athlete of the Week - Kali Terza, Kennesaw State - Gr. – Woodstock, Ga.
Terza won the weight throw at the Clemson Opener with a toss of 21.71m (71'2.25"). That mark established a new school record in the event by nearly four feet. Terza now ranks first in CUSA and third in the NCAA this season.
 
Women's Freshman of the Week - Alivia Rivera-Norman, Liberty - Fr. – Odessa, Texas
Rivera-Norman finished third of 31 competitors in the Liberty Kickoff women's 60 hurdles. She was the top freshman finisher in this event. Her time of 8.69 ranks No. 10 in program history and No. 2 in CUSA this season.
