TEN: April 2 Athletes of the Week

DALLAS – Liberty’s Rodrigo Santiago Arraez and MTSU’s Igor Mandou Berranger and Shu Matsuoka earned Conference USA Tennis Athlete of the Week honors on the men’s side. MTSU’s Zenn Lim and Liberty’s Daniella O’Neill and Maria Turchetto received the women’s CUSA Tennis Athletes of the Week honors.  
   
CUSA Men’s Tennis Athlete of the Week – Rodrigo Santiago Arraez, Liberty – So. – Toledo, Spain 
Santiago Arraez displayed a tremendous week from the No. 4 singles position in wins over No. 70 Florida Atlantic and No. 24 South Florida. The sophomore began his perfect week with a defeat of Florida Atlantic’s Jan Kusy in straight sets (6-1, 6-3). In his final match, he bested USF’s Ettore Danesi 6-2, 3-6, 7-5. Santiago Arraez currently owns a three-match winning streak and leads the Flames with 10 singles wins, including a 4-1 mark at the No. 3 position.
 
CUSA Men’s Doubles Team of the Week 
Igor Mandou Berranger, MTSU – So. – Eaubonne, France
Shu Matsuoka, MTSU – Jr. – Tokyo, Japan
 
The duo of Mandou Berranger and Matsuoka were the only pair of Blue Raiders to pick up a win in doubles against No. 44 Memphis. The pair secured a 6-4 victory over Luis Carvalho and Alejandro Vizoso on court No. 3 on Sunday. The Blue Raiders fought back to take the match 4-3 over the Tigers. Sunday’s match was the first time this season the duo has been paired together.
 
CUSA Women’s Tennis Athlete of the Week – Zenn Lim, MTSU – So. – Selangor, Malaysia
Lim captured wins in all three of her matches last week, including clinches over CUSA opponents, Kennesaw State and Jax State. On Wednesday, she defeated Ingrid Forsberg from St. Thomas, 6-1, 6-3. On Saturday, she delivered for the Blue Raiders, clinching the match with a three-set victory over KSU’s Terezia Baraniakova, 6-1, 3-6, 6-4. Later that day, with tow courts left in play, the sophomore secured the match with a dominant 6-2, 6-2 victory over Jax State’s Ella Tuomela, helping the Blue Raiders to a 4-2 win. 
 
CUSA Women’s Tennis Doubles Team of the Week
Daniella O’Neill, Liberty, R-So., Dorado, Puerto Rico
Maria Turchetto, Liberty, So., Florianopolis, Brazil 
 
O’Neill and Turchetto earned their second consecutive CUSA weekly honor after a 2-0 weekend in CUSA play, with No. 1 doubles wins over FIU (7-5) and New Mexico State (6-4). The duo leads Liberty with nine doubles (9-8, 17-13) all in the No. 1 slot. The tandem of Flames also currently own a five-match winning streak and a 4-0 record in conference play this season.
