MSOC: C-USA Semifinals New Mexico 2, Charlotte 1

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - New Mexico will makes its first appearance in the Conference USA Men's Soccer Championship match, after upsetting top-seed and fifth-ranked Charlotte, 2-1.

A tale of two halves was the story for both squads, as stout defenses prevailed in the first period. The Lobos tacked on the first goal of the match in the 51st minute when All-C-USA first-team senior Chris Wehan found the back of the net after picking up deflected shot in the box. Twenty minutes later New Mexico doubled its lead when C-USA first-team selectee Niko Hansen circled around a 49er defender in the box and placed the ball in the lower left post of the net.

Charlotte answered in the 78th minute as Daniel Bruce intercepted a clear by the Lobos in the box and ripped it past the keeper. New Mexico would stood pat in the final 12 minutes of the match to pick up the upset victory.

New Mexico will face the winner of FIU-Old Dominion in the finals of the C-USA Men's Soccer Championship on Sunday at 2 p.m. ET. The match will be streamed on ESPN3.
