FIU took a 1-0 lead when All-C-USA Second Team forward Luis Betancur sent a through ball to Ahlinvi as he dribbled it into the box and chipped a shot over keepers head into the net in the 30th minute. The Blazers wouldn’t respond until the 76th minute when DeAndre Robinson sent a beautiful ball just inside of 50 yards, into the box to Henrique Sposito where he possessed the ball with his thigh and took a shot into the upper left corner of the goal to tie the match.
Ahlinvi tacked on the game-winner with a little over a minute to play, corralling a rebound off a block shot and ripping it into the net.
The Panthers tallied 20 shots on the night and C-USA second-teamer Joe Kuzminsky made nine saves for UAB between the posts, totaling his saves to 80 on the year.
FIU will take on Old Dominion in the semifinals of the C-USA Men’s Soccer Championship on Friday at 7 p.m. ET and can be seen on CUSA TV. The Panthers used four different scorers in its Oct. 29 meeting at the Monarchs, as they cruised to a 4-1 victory.
