MSOC: Aug. 29 CUSA Players of the Week

IRVING, Texas - Old Dominion sophomore midfielder Niko Klosterhalfen earns the first Conference USA Offensive Player of the Week award of 2016 following a two-goal performance in a win against UNLV. Sophomore defender Aaron Herrera of New Mexico claims the Defensive Player of the Week honor. Herrera earned All-Tournament honors at the Mike Berticelli Memorial Invitational, where he anchored a strong defense against No. 9 Notre Dame and No. 15 Indiana.
 
C-USA Offensive Player of the Week – Niko Klosterhalfen, Old Dominion, So., MF, Koenigswinter, Germany
Klosterhalfen scored two goals for the Monarchs in their season home opener on Friday against UNLV. He totaled five shots and two goals against the Rebels. On Sunday against Stetson, Klosterhalfen Monarchs’ tallied 26 total shots against the Hatters. This is Klosterhalfen's first C-USA Player of the Week award of his career.
 
C-USA Defensive Player of the Week – Aaron Herrera, New Mexico, So., D, Las Cruces, N.M.
Herrera kicked off his sophomore campaign with All-Tournament honors at the Mike Berticelli Memorial Invitational hosted by Notre Dame. He saw all 180 minutes on the pitch for the Lobos and anchored a defense that nearly shut out two ranked opponents, No. 15 Indiana and No. 9 Notre Dame. Both goals scored against the Lobos in their opening weekend were results of penalty kicks. In addition, Herrera was key in clearing the ball from New Mexico territory while sending several well-placed crosses into the box that nearly yielded scoring against two top-15 ranked teams in the country. This is Herrera’s first C-USA Player of the Week honor of his career.
