MSOC: Oct. 23 Players of the Week

IRVING, Texas – Old Dominion goalkeeper Mertcan Akar earned his third Conference USA Defensive Player of the Week award, while FIU’s Paul Marie nabbed Offensive Player of the Week for the second-consecutive week.

C-USA Offensive Player of the Week – Paul Marie, FIU, Sr., Saint Aubindes Bois, France
Marie earned three points, one goal and one assist, in No. 11 FIU’s 4-0 win over No. 24 New Mexico. He totaled seven shots over the weekend, four of which were on goal. Marie is second in goals and points in conference play, right behind FIU teammate Santiago Patino.
 
C-USA Defensive Player of the Week – Mertcan Akar, Old Dominion, So., Cologne, Germany
Akar recorded 15 saves for the Monarchs over the weekend with a shutout win over C-USA opponent Marshall, and a double-overtime loss to No. 4 North Carolina. He has 59 saves on the season and a .766 save percentage.
