CHARLOTTE, N.C. – In the final game of the night, No. 3 seed Charlotte took down No. 6 seed UAB 1-0. C-USA All-Freshman Team selection Preston Popp scored the golden goal three minutes into the first overtime period off an assist from Tommy Madden.

Neither team could get points on the board in regulation, though Charlotte outshot the Blazers 14-2. It took just three short minutes into extra time and one shot for the 49ers to score and clinch their semifinals spot. Charlotte moved to 10 home matches without allowing a goal, as goalkeeper Elliot Panicco and the 49ers defense preserved the shutout tonight.
 
The 49ers will play No. 2 seed Old Dominion in the second semifinal game of the 2018 Air Force Reserve Conference USA Men’s Soccer Championship on Friday, Nov. 9 at 7 p.m. ET. The semifinals and championship game will be broadcast on ESPN+.
