DALLAS – Conference USA men’s soccer student-athletes continue to excel on and off the field, as two were selected to the 2018 United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division I Men’s Scholar All-America Team, announced by the organization Tuesday afternoon.
Leading the league is Charlotte’s
Callum Montgomery, who was also named to the Scholar All-South Region Team yesterday. The senior was selected as First Team Scholar All-America honoree for his 3.97 grade-point average (GPA) in biological sciences. The Victoria, British Columbia, native was named C-USA Defensive MVP and a MAC Hermann Trophy semifinalist this season. He was also named a Google Cloud Academic First Team All-American by CoSIDA.
UAB’s
Mathieu Laurent, also a Scholar All-South Region selection, was named a Third Team Scholar All-American. The senior boasts a 3.48 GPA as a marketing major. The Markham, Ontario, native served as a team captain for the Blazers and was voted to the All-Conference Second Team this season.
Student-Athletes receiving recognition for this award must have a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) or better throughout career, have started more than 50 percent of all games and significantly contribute to their team, have been nominated by their head coach of a current College Services member institution and be a junior or above in academic standing.
