MSOC: All-Academic Teams Announced

DALLAS – Eleven Conference USA Men’s Soccer student-athletes were selected to the 2019 Conference USA Men’s Soccer All-Academic Team for their impressive performances in the classroom and on the field. Seven institutions are recognized on the team, with UAB leading C-USA with three honorees.
 
Marshall’s Carlos Diaz-Salcedo and South Carolina’s Luca Mayr both earned their second All-Academic nod after being selected to the team in 2018, as well.
 
Diaz-Salcedo penned a 3.82 grade-point average (GPA) while majoring in international business and finance. The senior is a two-time C-USA Commissioner’s Academic Medal recipient and three-time C-USA Commissioner’s Honor Roll selection. This season, the defender has been a crucial part of a Marshall defense that has only allowed 15 goals.
 
Mayr, a finance major, compiled a 3.608 GPA. After battling injuries, the senior scored his first goal of the season in his first game back, a 3-0 win over Furman. He also tallied an assist against the Paladins. The senior had a game-tying goal against Florida Atlantic, a crucial conference match for the Gamecocks.
 
Charlotte’s Teddy Chaouche holds a 3.33 GPA as a health systems management major. The 2019 Preseason All-Conference selection has been named to Charlotte’s Dean’s List three times and the league’s Commissioner’s Honor Roll three times. This season, he has been among C-USA’s leaders in scoring with six goals and 20 points, starting all 16 matches for the 49ers.
 
FIU boasts two honorees in Andrew Booth and Alessandro Campoy.
 
Booth, a psychology major with a 3.480 GPA in psychology, shares the team lead in goals and leads FIU with 14 points. The senior is a two-time C-USA Commissioner’s Honor Roll selection in addition to his on-field achievements. He is second on the Panthers with 1322 minutes this season.
 
As an international business major, Campoy has a 3.360 GPA. A 2017-18 C-USA Commissioner’s Honor Roll honoree, Campoy is also one of the most productive offensive players for an FIU squad that ranks seventh in the nation in scoring offense. He is tied for the team lead with five goals and second with 12 points, posting two game-winning goals.
 
Kentucky’s Bailey Rouse, a civil engineering major, has maintained a 3.788 GPA. The junior midfielder has had an impressive season with 1553 minutes played, the third-most for the Wildcats. He currently has tallied three points on the season off one goal and one assist.
 
The Thundering Herd earned another selection in Pedro Dolabella. The economics major carries a 3.86 GPA. He is a three-time C-USA Commissioner’s Academic Medal recipient and three-time member of the conference’s Commissioner’s Honor Roll. The junior is having a career season, tying for second on the team with six goals and holding third place with 16 points, both numbers among the top players in C-USA.
 
Old Dominion’s Deniz Dogan compiled a 3.69 GPA while majoring in sport management. The senior has made the Dean’s List twice in his career with the Monarchs. This season, he led the squad offensively with 12 points off five goals and two assists. His five goals are tied for ninth in the league.
 
UAB rounds out the team with three selections in Joseph Buete, Julian Mehl and Donovan Watson.
 
A computer science major, Buete holds a 3.90 GPA. The junior played in every game this season and netted two goals, good for second on the Blazers. His five points rate third on the team. The midfielder has also picked up several academic accolades in his time at UAB, including being named to the C-USA Commissioner’s Honor Roll and receiving the C-USA Commissioner’s Academic Medal.
 
Mehl has maintained a perfect 4.00 GPA as a chemistry major. The senior goalkeeper played in 12 of 17 games for UAB, starting every match since September 21. His 3.67 saves per game rank seventh in the conference and his 44 total rank fifth. He has been named to both the C-USA Commissioner’s Honor Roll and the list of C-USA Commissioner’s Academic Medal recipients.
 
Watson also compiled an unblemished 4.00 GPA while majoring in biomedical engineering. He has maintained one of the highest GPA’s on the team and has been named to the C-USA Commissioner’s Honor Roll and received the C-USA Commissioner’s Academic Medal. The junior defender played the most minutes for the Blazers, 1218, while recording four shots on the season.
