NORFOLK, Va. – An early goal was enough to clinch No. 2 seed Charlotte’s third consecutive berth to the finals match of the C-USA Men’s Soccer Championship. The 49ers defeated No. 3 seed FIU 1-0 after playing them to a scoreless draw earlier this season.

Teddy Chaouche scored the game winner, his seventh goal of the season for the 49ers, in the 13th minute off an assist from Joe Brito. The match ended fairly evenly on shots as FIU held a slim advantage with 13 to Charlotte’s 11. Both had three shots on frame. 2019 C-USA Goalkeeper of the Year Elliot Panicco recorded three saves in his eighth shutout of the season.
 
The 49ers advance to the finals where they’ll face No. 1 seed Marshall at 1 p.m. ET on Sunday, Nov. 17 on ESPN+. Their match in the regular season ended in a 0-0 draw. The two last faced off in the C-USA Championship in the 2015 quarterfinals, where Marshall advanced on penalty kicks.
