Alessandro Campoy scored a pair of goals in a C-USA victory over UAB, and Marshall defender
Collin Mocyunas helped the No. 8 Herd hold off a strong challenge in a 1-0 victory over No. 11 Kentucky in a key C-USA match to earn the sixth Spring 2021 Conference USA’s Men’s Soccer Player of the Week honors, presented by Surf & Turf Golf.
C-USA Offensive Player of the Week – Alessandro Campoy, FIU, RS-Sr., Miami, Fla.
Campoy scored a season-high two goals in FIU’s 4-0 win over UAB on March 20. The redshirt senior from Miami scored in the third minute to put FIU up 1-0, before he added his second goal in the 39th minute off a penalty kick to give the Panthers a 3-0 lead heading into halftime. Campoy earned a league-high seven shots in the match as he applied continuous pressure on the UAB defense. It is his second Offensive Player of the Week award of the season, as he also earned the honor March 2.
C-USA Defensive Player of the Week – Collin Mocyunas, Marshall, RS-Jr., Morgantown, W.Va.
Mocyunas was a major key to the defensive success of the 8th-ranked Herd in the 1-0 victory at No. 11 Kentucky on March 18. The redshirt junior from Morgantown, W.Va., was tasked with marking the reigning C-USA Offensive Player of the Week, Kentucky’s Eythor Bjorgolfsson, and he held the Wildcats forward to zero shots in the match. Mocyunas played all 90 minutes on the back end as the Herd held UK to only nine shots overall and just two on goal in the match.
